about

Androgyny II is a collection of 8 cover versions, Timo: "After the first Androgyny EP I was asked by some singers if I had plans for a second release of cover versions. The answer was yes, but was originally scheduled for 2023. Timelines changed once I got started on Ordinary World with Annie from MACHINA_X. Over a few busy but fun months I realised I had a mini album and it would make sense to release it earlier."

The Androgyny concept - female vocalists selected songs originally sung by male vocalists, and vice versa. This is the second part in an intended trilogy.

This time around ..

Jake from The West View covering Lana Del Rey's Mariners Apartment Complex. Timo: "When Jake told me he wanted to cover Lana I was thrilled and terrified at the same time. Fortunately, Jake's incredible performance and rich velvety tones made my job a lot easier".

Annie from MACHINA_X covering Duran Duran's Ordinary World. Timo: "I am grateful for Annie pushing me forward on this project with much needed encouragement. Our objective was to work together on something fun and meaningful. The rules were that if we weren't happy it it wasn't going to see the light of day. Well, we were, and now it is in broad daylight".

Richard Tracey from Jigsaw Sequence covering the Kate Bush song Hounds of Love. Timo: "In a world long before Stranger Things and the new Kate Bush well-deserved explosion, I asked Richard what he would cover - he said Hounds Of Love. And it was to be. This isn't a bandwagon. We would have covered Kate regardless of a TV show. She's a genius".

Dasha from Pulse Lab covers Sparks - Now That I Own The BBC. Timo: "You never quite know with Dasha. I think we share the same bizarre Finnish humour. It is possible she would like to own the BBC. And I think that would be a very good thing. I had a lot of fun with this track - as you may tell from the last section. Look out BBC."

Maxx Silver covering Eagle by ABBA. Timo: "I was told I would be a brave man covering ABBA. But truth be known, it was Maxx Silver who had already covered Eagle however it was unreleased. Maxx saved the day. His rendition was an inspiration to me and a very fresh take. When I first heard the vulnerability of his performance I knew how the music should accompany his voice."

Little 15 by Depeche Mode as interpreted by Tina. Timo: "A long lost friend of my former band Static Icon popped up in my life again. Tina and I were discussing who she would cover given an opportunity .. and how... well .. how about a Depeche Mode Gregorian Choir Mass? I was up for it. As a Depeche Mode fan, I know that any covers of the gods of electronic music would be criticized or rejected. So be it. I love this version and can hear it on a dark soundtrack to a film about retribution and dark pasts. Tina did an incredible job".

Timo covering Army of Me by Bjork. Timo: "This is a personal favourite of mine. It's a warning. A subtle but furious voice you don't want to admit may explode. It also serves as a perfect segue into the second Montage Collective album ...."

The bonus track - Fade Away And Radiate - featuring Annie from MACHINA_X and Timo from Montage Collective. Timo: "I gave Annie my version of Fade Away from Androgyny I, and she sent me back her vocals. They were perfect for the track and our voices blended so well my arm didn't need to be twisted much at all. We put a demo version together but thought it might be fun to get someone to remix it. We agreed - who better than Mark from FUSED? Mark came back with a punchy, dark, rich remix that needed to be heard, so it is offered here as a bonus track. The demo remains an exclusive and will never have an official release."

Some final words from Timo: "Once I got on the rollercoaster it was hard to get off. As the suggestions from singers came in and I started to hear the angles I would take musically, it was unstoppable. I love the juxtaposition of the vulnerable male vocal performances with the gutsy, dark and powerful vocals of the featured female singers. Androgyny III will have a lot to live up to."
